Leila Javadi Shalkouhi
Brief Biography:
A versatile filmmaker and multimedia content creator with expertise in directing, producing,
cinematography, photography and editing. With a diverse background in promotional, industrial, and experimental video production. Known for my ability to manage projects from concept to completion. I work under the artist’s name El Hakim.
Areas of Expertise:
My areas of expertise are documentary filmmaking, multimedia storytelling, digital content production, and ethical visual communication, with a strong interest in gender equality, women’s rights, social justice, and international development.
I have worked as a multimedia content producer for the World Health Organization, creating documentary, social media, photography, and campaign content around public health initiatives, and collaborating with organisations including UNHCR, UNICEF, and several embassies. I am particularly interested in how visual storytelling can support advocacy, public understanding, and the representation of women and marginalised communities in ethical and non extractive ways.
My creative practice also includes political and experimental short films, with work connected to women’s rights and the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. I am interested in feminist and decolonial approaches to storytelling, especially how media can challenge dominant narratives, document lived experience, and make complex social issues accessible to wider audiences.
