Response to the 2025 G7 Leaders' Summit

June 2025

Response: The G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Canada concluded with an array of statements on a range of narrow and limited subjects in the absence of a Leaders’ Communiqué. These statements demonstrate the prioritisation of ‘consensus’ over the leadership that is urgently required to resist the intensifying emergency of attacks on the rights of women and girls in all their diversity across the world.

While women and girls are mentioned in some statements, the language used is superficial and fails to meaningfully display any commitment to the rights of women and girls, advancing gender equality, and protecting the rights of LGBTQI+ communities. This is a stark regression from the language included in previous years’ communiqués.

GADN’s response calls on G7 governments, particularly the UK, to urgently course-correct and use upcoming multilateral engagement to demonstrate true and principled commitment to the rights of women and girls in all their diversity.
