Response to the 2026 G7 Leaders' Summit

June 2026

Response: For a second-year running, the 2026 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Évian, France, concluded with statements on a variety of subjects. In the absence of a Leaders’ Communiqué, these statements ranged from mutually beneficial partnerships and geopolitical issues to the fight against cancer.

Amidst a difficult geopolitical backdrop, GADN appreciates the rights-based reference to women and girls in the partnerships declaration. However, in the face of increasing global backlash against the rights of women and girls in all their diversity, the omission of gender equality from the statements and Summit agenda continues to be a cause for concern.

GADN calls on the UK government to use its own presidencies of the G20 in 2027 and the G7 in 2028 to put its commitments to women and girls as a foreign policy priority and meaningful gender mainstreaming into practice.
