GADN's response to the UK International Strategic Framework on Women and Girls
May 2026
Response: On 20 May 2026, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) released the UK International Strategic Framework on Women and Girls.
GADN welcomes the launch of the Framework, which represents an important commitment to prioritise and promote women’s and girls’ rights across every area of the department’s work. We look forward to supporting the FCDO in further developing ambitious deliverables. Particularly important are plans to:
Ensure the necessary technical expertise and accountability frameworks are in place across the department
Work with women’s rights organisations and feminist movements to centre the priorities of women and girls in all their diversity
Use the UK’s influence in multilateral spaces to combat attacks on rights and promote gender equality globally.
In addition, the resources available to Global South governments for gender equality spending should be increased through debt relief and other measures that address colonial legacies of global economic inequality.
