Erika Yap
Policy and Advocacy Officer
Erika has a background in UK-based campaigning for gender equality and women’s rights at national and local levels with the Women’s Equality Party and Nottingham Women’s Centre. Working with activists, candidates and volunteers, she has experience campaigning against racism and misogyny in policing, for reform of the care system and for reproductive justice. She has also managed local election campaigns for candidates running on a feminist platform.
Erika completed her MSci International Relations and Global Issues degree from the University of Nottingham in 2022. Her eventual focus became the investigation of the roles of gender and sexuality in US Foreign Policy discourse around the ‘rising China’ trope. She heavily relied on postcolonial and queer theory in this work. While studying, she also completed work on the potential of gender equality outcomes in revolutionary contexts, the global treatment of forcibly displaced populations, and queer celebrity culture in China.
