Brief Biography:
Mariama is a Women’s Rights, Juvenile Justice, and Transitional Justice expert with over 15 years of experience in The Gambia and the UK. She specialises in addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, empowering affected and marginalised individuals and communities. She founded Fantanka, a women-led organisation in Scotland and The Gambia, leading initiatives focused on gender justice, mental health, and social justice, partnering with international organisations for systemic change. She played a key role in The Gambia’s Transitional Justice process, including contributions to the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission, amplifying the voices of women and children impacted by violence during the dictatorship.
