Feminist and Decolonial Ways of Working
October 2024
What this members' meeting was about
In recent years, as staff and leaders in international development have been increasingly and rightfully challenged to confront and dismantle the power imbalances inherent in the sector, there has been a growing recognition of the transformative potential of feminist and decolonial ways of working. These approaches not only aim to address inequities, colonial legacies, and coloniality, but in doing so also radically reimagine leadership, collaboration and decision-making processes. From co-leadership models, to more equitable partnership working, or an increased focus on care and collective wellbeing, organisations have taken a wide variety of approaches to foster more feminist and decolonial ways of working.
This GADN members’ meeting provided a space to look at some of the established and emerging practices and discuss experiences and insights by hearing from a range of different speakers, and exchanging with other GADN members. A hybrid panel discussion was moderated by Leila Billing, GADN trustee and co-founder of We Are Feminist Leaders, and we heard from these incredible speakers:
Dr. Ramatu Bangura, Co-CEO, Purposeful
Pranita Choudhry, co-lead, intersectional feminism and decolonisation, ActionAid UK
Arundhati Sridhar, feminist leadership consultant, activist and facilitator
